Origins

The original players were all from south side of Chicago and this is where the team was formed in the 1920s. In the beginning, they were called the Savoy Big Five. In 1928, many players left the Savoy Big Five and formed “Globe Trotters.” This team later came to be known as “New York Harlem Globe Trotters.” In 1929, the team was rechristened The Harlem Globetrotters.
