The rivalry initially developed out of interleague play – the Rangers are a member of the American League while the Astros were a part of the National League (up till 2012). The interleague rivalry converted into an intra-division rivalry when the Astros became a member of the American League West.

How it all Began?

For more than three decades, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers played a bunch of games against each other in Spring Training – but no one really cared.
