Tampa Bay Lightning Cities

  • Ben Bishop was part of a franchise record 37 wins during the 2013-2014 season.
  • Roman Hamrlik scored a franchise record 65 points during the 1995–96 season. This is the most points any defenseman has scored for the franchise.
  • Steven Stamkos holds the franchise record for most goals in a season. He scored 60 during the 1011-2012 season.
  • Thunderbug, the team’s mascot is said to enjoy birthday parties, street hockey, ice hockey and Lightning fans. He apparently dislikes flyswatters and bug zappers.
  • Team’s highest attendance for home playoff game was 28,183 at the ThunderDome in 1995-1996.

The team played its first ever game against the Chicago Blackhawks in October 1992 at Expo Hall, Florida, and shocked everyone by defeating them 7-3. The team ended up in last place in their inaugural season yet showed one of the best NHL debuts ever. After the first couple of struggling years, the Bolts reached close to their first remarkable season in 1995-1996 when they defeated the Stanley Cup defending champion New Jersey Devils. They unfortunately lost to the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round series. The Bolts' fans' attendance at that game set the NHL record for highest attendance ever until 2003. The following few seasons of the decade were extremely disappointing for the fans as the Bolts could not deliver any outstanding or even competitive performances.

Due to the team's poor performance, it was sold to Art Williams in 1998. Within just one year, Williams gave up on the Bolts and sold the team to William Davidson. Some serious managerial level changes and a lot of pressure worked for the Bolts, and finally the team showed what it was actually capable of. The Bolts were finally in shape to get some good wins in 2003-2004, and they did it. Despite many rumors and bad predictions, the team won their first Stanley Cup by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers after a tough game. The Bolts were too busy celebrating their victory to focus on their game again, and their performance fell from bad to worse. The team was once again sold, and Tampa Bay Lightning is now owned by Jeff Vinik.

The team's recent performance has been very poor, as they have been unable to qualify for the playoffs once again. There is hope that the management changes will bring some improvement and stability to the team's performance. Nevertheless, the Bolts fans deserve appreciation, as they have not lost hope and see the spark that will one day make their team stand tall among the rest. Together with ThunderBug and the Lightening Girls, the fans are sure to rise and shine with the Bolts. The current roster of the Tampa Bay Lightning includes Vincent Lecavalier, Mattias Ohlund, Martin St. Louis, Dan Ellis, Mattias Ritola, Simon Gagne, Ryan Malone, Blair Jones, Mathieu Roy, Teddy Purcell, Steven Stamkos, Dominic Moore, Mike Smith, Nate Thompson, Dana Tyrell, and Steven Stamkos.

The Bolts have played their home games at the St. Pete Times Forum since its opening in 1996. The arena also caters to other sports and is the home field for the Lingerie Football League's Tampa Breeze and the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm. Other events held regularly at the St. Pete Times Forum include WWE championships, NCAA basketball games, baseball matches, volleyball events, and concerts. Almost 20,000 people can gather for ice hockey, basketball, arena football games, and concerts at the arena. The residents of Tampa and fans of the Bolts never miss an opportunity to catch them live at this arena. This tradition is meant to continue, and if the Bolts bring their ice hockey charisma back, the fans will follow them to the home ground of their rivals, without a doubt. If you are as enthusiastic about their live game as a real fan should be, then you must hurry up and order Tampa Bay Lightning tickets as soon as possible. The team will face the Chicago Blackhawks in the upcoming NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
