Southern Miss Golden Eagles Football

The University of Southern Mississippi's football team is a member of Conference USA and plays its home games at M. M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg. The team is coached by Jay Hopson, a Mississippian who played football at Ole Miss. The Golden Eagles have won eight conference titles and their main rivalries are with Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, UAB Blazers, Louisville Cardinals, East Carolina Pirates, Tulane Green Wave, and Memphis Tigers. Southern Miss enjoys a winning record against all of their rivals, with the rivalry against the Memphis Tigers and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs being the oldest in the university's sports history, dating back to 1935. Their rivalry against the UAB Blazers is rather new, with the two teams meeting for the first time in 2026.

M. M. Roberts Stadium has been a lucky charm for Southern Miss ever since 1976, with the team's winning percentage there being 73%. Popularly known as "The Rock at Southern Miss," the stadium has undergone regular renovations and now boasts a new state-of-the-art scoreboard, luxury suites, and a seating capacity of 36,000.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles Baseball

Known for its black and gold uniform, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball team is a member of Conference USA and has won four conference championships. In total, the team has produced 19 All-Americans and there are currently four former Golden Eagles playing in the MLB. The team plays its home games at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. In addition to winning multiple conference titles and appearing in 14 NCAA tournaments, the team's biggest asset is its loyal fan base; Pete Taylor Park consistently ranks among the top 20 in NCAA attendance figures.

The team's illustrious history dates back to 1912. Since then, they have had 13 head coaches, with Scott Berry currently serving as the coach. Berry's predecessor, Corky Palmer, is considered to be the team's most successful coach; under his leadership, the Golden Eagles made their first appearance in the College World Series. During his tenure, the team had a 409-160 record.

Southern Miss Lady Eagles Basketball  

Not to be outdone by men, the Southern Miss Lady Eagles basketball team stands out among all of Southern Miss' sports teams. Competing in Conference USA, the team has been to ten postseasons, winning eight of them and advancing to the Sweet 16. Its 2026-15 season is considered to be the best, as the team advanced to the 2026 WNIT Elite 8 against Michigan. Due to its storied history, the women's team also enjoys a solid fan following. On March 29, 2026, almost 5,500 fans came to watch the Southern Miss vs. Michigan game. Seymour the Mascot

As the university's athletic teams' names have changed over the years, Southern Miss has also experienced an evolution of mascot. Today, the university's new mascot is Seymour.
