The rivalry between the SMU Mustangs and the Mean Green football teams began in October, 1922 when they first met at the Armstrong Field. The inaugural game was won by Mustangs with a perfect 66-0 score. In the next few years, the SMU Mustangs dominated the rivalry winning 8 more games.
