The Siena Saints is the name of the athletics program of the Siena College, located in Loudonville, New York. It is a program led by John D’Argento and is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference within the NCAA Division I. It is home to eighteen varsity teams, of which the basketball ones play at the Times Union Center, the baseball teams practice at the Siena Baseball Field and other teams practive at the Alumni Recreation Center. Each year, thousands of Siena Saints tickets are sold for the many exciting games and matches featuring some of the best in American college sports
The Siena Saints official mascot is Bernie ‘Saint’ Bernard, inspired by St. Bernard Dog. The program’s women’s and men’s sports are basketball, golf, cross country, lacrosse, tennis and soccer. Additional women’s only sports are volleyball, swimming & diving, softball and field hockey. A men’s only baseball team also exists, regularly playing a number of games. The field hockey team is the only one not part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference; instead, it plays in the Northeast Conference.
Initially, the Siena Saints were members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference and the American East Conference, then the North Atlantic Conference. It joined its current conference in 1990 and has since then won many titles, championships, awards and honors. Its men’s basketball team is one of the best known, having appeared six times in the National NCAA Tournaments. It has also played in the National Invitational Tournament five times, emerging third overall once. The women’s basketball team has also appeared once in the National NCAA Tournament and thrice in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
The Siena Saints men’s baseball team has also appeared in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament and its players, such as John Lannan, have been drafted by MLB teams. The men’s lacrosse team has also participated in the NCAA Tournament, most recently in 2009, when it won the MAAC Championship after a ten game winning streak, a superb record that amazed all those who were watching its games live via Siena Saints tickets .
