Saturday Night's Main Event – History

May 11, 1985 was the date when Saturday Night's Main Event made its debut. During its early years, the show became a massive success on NBC, paving the way for different prime time specials on Friday nights, such as “The Main Event.” The first of its kind pitted Hulk Hogan and the late great Andre the Giant against each other in a rematch of their famous WrestleMania III match. That episode was an incredible success, seen by a whopping thirty-three million viewers and receiving a rating of 15.2. To this day, it remains the highest-rated American professional wrestling show of all time.

The Revivals

The original run lasted from 1985 to 1992. Saturday Night's Main Event was revived once again in 2006, but that run did not last for long and the show closed again in 2008. In February 2022, World Wrestling Entertainment announced another return of this famous show. This time, Saturday Night's Main Event will be the name of the company's house shows.
