Sports teams in Europe, especially their soccer franchises, have long believed in youth teams and developmental leagues to create the next generation of superstars. They scout young talent at an early age and give them time to grow and acclimatize to their style of play before giving them their debut in the first team. In the US, however, the structure of sports is mainly centered on the talent available in college and high school teams. It is only recently that franchises have started to adapt the European model and look at the lower leagues as an opportunity to do the same for their as-yet inexperienced players. One example is the American Hockey League, which, since its debut over seventy years ago, has been instrumental in the progress of ice hockey in the US and Canada.
Brace yourself in advance
Today, the American Hockey League has thirty teams in total, with twenty-seven of them based in the United States and the rest in Canada. All the teams are divided into two conferences, which are further divided into two more divisions, with the Pacific Division having been set up in 2015. With the formation of a new division, the league added a few new franchises to the roster, while others were moved to new locations.
One of the most successful of these relocated sides was the San Jose Barracuda, who had previously been known as the Worcester Sharks and were associated with the San Jose Sharks. If you want to check out their progress in their second season, then here is your chance. Just book your San Jose Barracuda tickets and watch them play live from the stands.
The teeth are bared
The franchise was created in 1996 as the Kentucky Thoroughblades by the San Jose Sharks. During their time as the Thoroughblades, the team enjoyed quite a few positive results and posted only one losing season in their first five years. In the meantime, they also managed to get into the playoffs twice and won two division titles as well. In 2001, the team relocated to Cleveland and was renamed the Barons. They played another five seasons during this period, but those weren't as successful, as they only managed to post one winning season record during the entire time. Their time in Cleveland is generally considered to be a disappointment, and they didn't enjoy any more success until their move to Worcester in 2006, where their name was changed to the Sharks. The franchise spent nine years in this area, recording only three losing season records and even winning a division title in 2010. After the AHL announced their plans to form a new Pacific Division, the Sharks became one of the few teams to relocate when they moved to San Jose in 2015, and they have made an encouraging start to life there, with quite a few successes expected in the future.
And the attack is imminent
The Barracuda's first season in the Pacific Division did not go exactly as planned, but there were many positive signs that their performances would improve over the next few years. They played almost seventy games in the season and managed to win fifty-four percent of them. They also made it to the playoffs in their very first year, but lost out to the Ontario Reign in the first round and will be looking for better results this time around.
There are high expectations for this up-and-coming side in their new season in the league, and many people are predicting them to go all the way to the Calder Cup finals this time around. With a quality squad and the longest-serving coach in AHL history, the team has managed to find some form of consistency. If you get your San Jose Barracuda tickets, then you too can watch their performances live from the stands.
