A Little Bit of Houston Rockets History
The Houston Rockets trace their history back to the year 1967 when they were incepted in the city of San Diego. They were named the Rockets and made their debut in the NBA in the 1967-1968 season. They reached the playoffs in their second season. They remained in San Diego for another two seasons without making too much of an impact and then re-located to Houston.
The Rockets failed to qualify for the postseason for the first three seasons in Houston but ended that run in the 1974-1975 campaign. They went all the way to the conference semifinals where they lost to the Boston Celtics 4-1.
The Rockets did not give up and at the end of the 1976-1977, they had a division title to show for their perseverance. They clinched their maiden conference championship in 1981 and hence qualified for the NBA Finals. Once again standing in their way were the Boston Celtics and the Rockets lost 4-2. The same fate befell them in 1986 as the Celtics beat the Rockets 4-2 in the NBA Finals yet again.
The Rockets luck turned in the 1993-1994 season as they won the division title, the conference crown as well as their first ever NBA Championship. They did the conference and NBA double in 1995 to win two titles in a row. That was the last time they reached the NBA summit though and will now be looking to end the season as NBA Champions for the third time in their history.
