Reading Royals

A professional ice hockey team from Pennsylvania, the Reading Royals play in the North Division of the ECHL’s Eastern Conference. Since making the Santander Arena their home in 2001, the Royals have consistently ranked among the leading ECHL teams in terms of regular season attendance. They were the ECHL Kelly Cup Champions in 2013, when they earned the title after a five-game victory over the Stockton Thunder in the 2013 Kelly Cup Finals.

The Royals were founded as the Columbus Chill back in 1991 with the aim of introducing the game of hockey to new audiences and building a strong fan base in the process. With the help of an extensive marketing plan, the franchise was able to do so successfully. Beginning in January 1992, the Chill played 83 consecutive sold out games.

They would go on to win two Conference Championships and feature in the playoffs five times in eight seasons before suspending operations in 1999. Two years later the franchise had moved to Reading, Pennsylvania and started the 2001-02 season as the Reading Royals. The League

The ECHL (formerly known as the East Coast Hockey League) is a professional hockey league with its base of operations in Princeton, New Jersey and is a tier below the AHL (American Hockey League).
