The Phoenix Suns were founded in 1968 and began playing as an expansion team. The name "Suns" was selected through a naming contest, and the winner was awarded $1,000 and season tickets. Since 1992, the Suns' home arena has been the US Airways Center, located at 201 East Jefferson in Phoenix. The center is famously known as the Purple Palace due to its purple seats.

The Suns have one of the best winning percentages, at 50%. They have advanced to the NBA Finals twice, in 1976 and 1993, but despite their performance over the past 40 years, they have yet to win the NBA Championship. The Suns' first season was not very successful, and they failed to make the playoffs. However, in 1969-70, they raced to the Divisional semi-finals, but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 4-3. After 1970, the Suns were unable to make any impactful performances for a few years.

John MacLeod was hired as head coach in 1973, and some good players were also signed. In 1975-76, the Suns' game improved, and they beat the Seattle SuperSonics in the Conference semi-finals and the Golden State Warriors in the finals. They made history by storming to the NBA Finals for the first time, but lost to the Boston Celtics 4-2. From the late 70s to the late 80s, the Suns faced ups and downs, but their playing style established them as a fearsome team. In 1978-79, they lost the Conference finals to the Seattle SuperSonics, and then for the next two years went on to play the semi-finals, but lost in 1980 to the Lakers and in 1981 to the Sacramento Kings.

The Phoenix Suns got attention again in 1984 when they surpassed all other teams to reach the Conference finals for the third time, but this time lost again to their old rivals, the Lakers, 4-2. Afterwards, the Suns' game was affected by some players suffering injuries and a player's drug scandal. MacLeod left and Cotton Fitzsimmons joined, and from 1988-91, the Phoenix Suns lost one Conference semi-final and two finals.

In 1992, the Phoenix Suns began a successful era when they drafted star forward Charles Barkley and other talented players such as Danny Manning, Wayman Tisdale, and Elliot Perry. The Suns proved to be a formidable team in the 1992-93 season, finishing first with a career-best record of 60 wins and 20 losses, winning the Conference Finals, and playing in the NBA Finals for the second time, though they ultimately lost to the Chicago Bulls 4-2. In the 1993-94 season, they finished second with 56 wins and 26 losses, but lost in the semi-finals to the Houston Rockets. In the 1994-95 season, the Suns stood first in the Conference, scoring 59 wins and 23 losses, but lost again to the Rockets 4-3 in the semi-finals.

From 1999-2003, the Suns were unable to display their true flair, but after the addition of Kurt Thomas, Raja Bell, and point guard Steve Nash, they became a formidable team once again. In 2004, they stood first in the Conference and equaled their career-best wins with 62 and 20 losses, though they lost the Conference Finals to the Spurs 4-1. In 2005, they repeated the previous year's performance with 54 wins and 28 losses, but lost the Finals to the Dallas Mavericks 4-2. In 2006, the Suns stood first in the Conference for the third consecutive year, setting a record with 61 wins and 21 losses, but lost to the Spurs 4-2 in the semi-finals. In the 2009-2010 season, they stood second in the Conference and made it to the Finals, but lost to one of their oldest rivals, the Lakers, 4-2.

Some notable players currently on the roster are Hedo Turkoglu, Steve Nash, Hakim Warrick, Earl Clark, and Jared Dudley. The Phoenix Suns are one of the toughest teams on the court and are certainly a joy to watch. So don't miss out on the thrill - get your Phoenix Suns tickets now and be enthralled!
