Phoenix Rising FC finally posted a winning season for the first time in their history in 2017. The franchise joined the soccer fraternity in 2014 and failed to make much of an impact in the first three seasons. That was however not so surprising considering they had just joined the United Soccer League. Now it seems they are hitting their stride and the upturn in fortunes was made possible with the arrival of Patrice Carteron as the head coach. Now the latest season is underway and Phoenix Rising game tickets are in demand every time they play. If you want to see them in action live, then book your Phoenix Rising FC tickets.

The Formation
Phoenix FC used to be the soccer team in Phoenix and it used to play in the USL Professional Division. On June 8, 2012, it was announced that the BDR Sports LLC was formed in order to bring a soccer side to Phoenix. The USL Pro gave the group a team that was to start playing from the year 2013.
The franchise's stay however did not last for long. They played just one season in the USL Pro before the league decided to take away the franchise from the BDR Sports LLC because BDR was found to be in breach of multiple contractual violations. On December 16, 2013, the ownership of Phoenix FC was given to American Soccer Marketing LLC. That arrangement lasted for three months only before American Soccer Marketing made the announcement, on March 12, 2014, that it cannot continue as owners of the franchise. As a result of that Phoenix FC folded and in its place came Arizona United SC, the very next day.
The Arrival of Phoenix Rising FC
Phoenix Rising FC was formed as Arizona United SC in the year 2014. It was on March 13, 2014, one day after Phoenix FC folded, that an announcement was made regarding the arrival of a new soccer franchise in the city of Phoenix. The management did not waste any time in getting everything in order either.
Michael Dellorusso was announced as the first head coach of the team on March 28, 2014. They took to the field for the first time on April 12, 2014 against Oklahoma City Energy FC but lost that clash 4-0. It was a week later that they recorded their first ever win. On April 19, 2014, Arizona United SC took on the Sacramento Republic FC and beat them 2-1 to open their account. Brandon Swartzendruber was the scorer of the first goal while Jonathan Top came up with the winning goal. They finished their inaugural campaign with a record of 10-13-5.
The First US Open Cup Run
In the US Open Cup, they made it to the fourth round which made them the first ever Arizona based soccer side to make it that far. They entered the tournament in the second round and came up against the Portland Timbers U23s. Arizona United SC won the game 3-2. In the next round, they faced off against the Oklahoma City Energy FC and triumphed 2-1 in extra time. That win set up a clash with the formidable Los Angeles Galaxy and that was one step too far for Arizona as they lost the game 2-1. Galaxy went on to win the title that year too.
The Shakeups
Arizona United finished their next season 10-16-2 and the management opted against renewing the contract of Michael Dellorusso. Brett M. Johnson became a minority stakeholder in the team and in December of 2015, he was made the President and Chairman of the franchise. The management brought in Frank Yallop as the head coach. A consortium of musicians that was being headed by Diplo then bought a minority stake in the franchise on January 27, 2016. That was followed by Pete Wentz doing the same in April.
Kyle Eng, the owner then decided to sell his stake in the team to a group being headed by Berke Bakay. Bakay was the CEO and President of the restaurant Kona Grill and the new owners changed the name of the side to Phoenix Rising FC on November 28, 2016. In 2016, they also moved to their new home, the Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex.
They began the 2017 season by bringing in players like Shawn Wright-Phillips and Omar Bravo. Then they went out and added the legendary Didier Drogba to the ranks. Citing family reasons, Yallop stepped down on April 24, 2017 and his place was taken by the Rick Schantz on an interim basis. Patrice Carteron then took over as the head coach on May 22, 2017. They are now on the up and are looking good once again. Book Phoenix Rising FC tickets and watch them in action live this season.
