Professional Bull Riders, Inc (PBR) originated from a hotel room in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1992 when some riders felt the need for a platform to showcase their unique skill-set to a wider audience. Each rider pitched in with $1000 dollars.

Over the years the sport caught the imagination of the world and now the prize money ranges from $330, 000 to more than ten million. The organization has attracted members from all over the world, including countries like Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, U.S., Mexico and Australia. The bull riding season is broken up into three tours which are called the ‘Built Ford Tough Series’, ‘BlueDEF Velocity Tour’ and ‘Lucas Oil Touring Pro Division’.

The riders are scored on the basis of their style and on the duration they are able to remain in the saddle. Each rider is supposed to ride the bull for a total of eight seconds. They are only allowed to hold the reins with one hand while the other hand is used for balance. Four judges rate each rider, with two scoring the bull and two scoring the rider.  When all riders have performed the top fifteen are chosen and they compete for the top prize.
