The NIT Season Tip Off is a yearly college basketball tournament that is held each and every year at the start of the regular season. This superb tournament is widely regarded as one of the most popular tournaments at the start of the season, alongside events such as the Great Alaska Shootout and the Maui Invitational. This amazing annual basketball tournament begins at the start of the season with the first two rounds of the tournament taking place at various venues spread out across various colleges. The semi-finals and the finals however take place at one of the greatest American venues, the MadisonSquareGarden located in New York City. The NIT Season Tip Off college basketball tournament first started off as the Preseason NIT when it was founded in 1985. This name was chosen so as to avoid confusion with the post-season NIT, the National Invitational Tournament. However, when the NIT came under NCAA control in 2005, the name was changed to NIT Season Tip Off, a college basketball tournament that can easily be watched live through the use of NIT Season Tip Off Tickets.
In 2006, the NIT Season Tip Off also saw a change in format; the venues for the first two rounds of this phenomenal college basketball tournament were regional venues as opposed to campus venues in much the same way as the postseason NCAA Tournament. The finals as well as the semi-finals are still played at the MadisonSquareGarden. The change of format was however turned back to the original in 2007. The very first NIT Season Tip Off championship game took place in 1985. This was between the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team and the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team. The Duke Blue Devils won this championship by 92-86. The next game took place in 1986 and featured the UNLV Rebels going head to head with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers basketball team; the UNLV Rebels won with a margin of only one at 96-95.

The 2010 NIT Season Tip Off college basketball tournament featured the Tennessee Volunteers basketball team facing off the Villanova Wildcats basketball team. The Tennessee Volunteers won this championship with a score of 78-68. This time around, the NIT Season Tip Off features sixteen different college basketball teams from all over the nation. These are the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team, the Manhattan Jaspers men’s basketball team, the Albany Great Danes men’s basketball team, the Brown University men’s basketball team, the Virginia Tech Hokies men’s basketball team, the Monmouth Hawks men’s basketball team, the George Mason Patriots men’s basketball team, the Florida International Golden Panthers men’s basketball team, the Stanford Cardinal men’s basketball team, the Fresno State Bulldogs men’s basketball team, the Colorado State Rams men’s basketball team, the SMU Mustangs men’s basketball team, the Oklahoma State Cowboys men’s basketball team, the Arkansas Pine Bluff men’s basketball team, the Oral Roberts men’s basketball team and the UTSA Roadrunners men’s basketball team.
