Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars were founded in 1967 and were called the Minnesota North Stars back then. Based in Bloomington, they joined the NHL that year as an expansion team. The Met Center was their first home arena. In their debut NHL campaign, the North Stars were able to qualify for the playoffs and even made it to the semifinals before falling to the St. Louis Blues.
Over the next two decades, the team was a perennial playoff contender and only failed to qualify for the postseason a handful of times. During this period, the North Stars played in two Stanley Cup Finals. They also won two Division titles and one Conference crown. After the conclusion of the 1992-93 NHL season, the franchise relocated to Dallas.
The Reunion Arena became the Stars’ first home in the Big D and they played there until 2001. They then relocated to the American Airlines Center but not before winning 5 division titles, 2 conference crowns, 2 Presidents' Trophies and 1 Stanley Cup.
All in all, the Stars have won 8 Division crowns, 2 Presidents’ Trophies, 2 Conference Championships and 1 Stanley Cup in their storied history. Many great players have represented them over the years. These include United States Hockey Hall of Famers Neal Broten, Brett Hull, Kevin Hatcher, Derian Hatcher, Joe Nieuwendyk and Ed Belfour among many others. Nashville Predators
Founded in 1998 as an expansion franchise of the NHL, the Nashville Predators are one of the league’s youngest outfits. However, that hasn’t prevented them from building themselves up as a force to be reckoned with.
Making their NHL debut during the 1998-99 campaign, the Predators struggled to make the playoffs for the first few years. However, since earning their maiden postseason berth in 2003-04, the side from the Music City have only missed the playoffs a couple of times more.
Despite having been around for a relatively short time, the Predators have racked up an impressive trophy haul. This includes 2 Western Conference Central Division titles, 1 Presidents’ Trophy and 1 Conference crown. They competed in their first Stanley Cup Finals in 2017.
Many talented players have donned the Predators’ colors since the franchise’s inception. The list includes the likes of Filip Forsberg, Pekka Rinne, Mike Fisher, Paul Kariya, Ryan Suter, Roman Josi and Kimmo Timonen among others.
The current crop also includes many gifted exponents of the game who will be looking to build their own legacies and lead the team to greater heights in the coming years.
