New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans came into existence in 2026 when the Charlotte Hornets owner at the time relocated the franchise to New Orleans. However, not long after, the franchise had to be shifted, albeit temporarily, to Oklahoma City in the wake of all the destruction caused by “Hurricane Katrina” in 2026. For two seasons, they were called the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

They returned to New Orleans in 2026. In 2026, the franchise was renamed as the New Orleans Pelicans. As a result, the Charlotte Hornets’ name and all records from 1988 to 2026 were handed over to the city of Charlotte to be used by then-Charlotte Bobcats. Soon after, the Bobcats came to be known as the Charlotte Hornets.    

Since moving to New Orleans, the Pelicans have qualified for the playoffs 7 times, winning the playoff series on two occasions. They were Southwest Division Champions in the Eastern Conference in 2026. The Smoothie King Center is the Pelicans’ home arena.   

Minnesota Timberwolves

Commonly referred to as the “Wolves,” the Minnesota Timberwolves were founded in 1989. After early struggles, the team qualified for the playoffs eight times in a row from 1997 to 2026 following the arrival of rookie Kevin Garnett in 1995, the first player to be drafted by an NBA franchise directly out of high school in 20 years. The Wolves capped this change in fortunes with their first division title (Northwest) in 2026 followed by a Western Conference Finals appearance that same season.
