Nebraska Omaha Mavericks are a group of 15 varsity teams that play under the patronage of University of Nebraska in Omaha. They are also popularly known as UNO Mavericks. The University of Nebraska was founded in 1908, it is located Kountze Place in urban Omaha. The campus is spread over an area of about 158 acres. Currently around 15000 students are enrolled in it. The sports teams of the university play in the Summit League which is part of the NCAA Division 1 college athletic conference. Other universities that are part this league include Purdue, South Dakota, Western Illinois, Oakland and Missouri. Nebraska Omaha Mavericks mascot is horned bull named Durango. The teams are nicknamed Mavericks. The official team colors are black and crimson and UNO Fite is the official fight song. All the games except hockey is played in Summit League NCAA, for hockey the Mavericks are a part of Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The official arenas for the Mavericks are Ralston Arena for basketball, AIF Caniglia Field for football and for all other sports they use Century Link Center.

The Mavericks men’s team take part in games like hockey, tennis, baseball, soccer, golf, wrestling and basketball whereas the women team compete in swimming, track, cross country, soccer and volleyball. The men’s wrestling team has won an amazing seven NCAA wrestling tournaments. They were the champions continuously for three years in 2009-10-11. Apart from this, The Mavericks women’ softball team has also made history by winning eleven conference titles. The women volleyball team has also brought laurels for the university by winning 8 conference volleyball titles. Besides this other conference titles that have been won include 4 baseball, 6 basketball, 6 soccer and 4 tennis.


Dedication, hard work and hours of practice is what that has made the Mavericks a formidable sports team. During this year they have not been able to win any major titles but the Mavericks are headstrong and are bent upon winning the next games.
