The two teams that have clinched the top two spots in the Eastern Conference are the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. The other six teams have also been decided, though a battle for the seeds continues. The other six teams that have qualified include the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks and the Washington Wizards.
The teams that did not make it to the playoffs include the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks.
The NBA Playoff Picture in the Eastern Conference
Now that we have our eight teams, let’s take a look at where each team stands at the moment.
Toronto Raptors: The top-seed Toronto side landed the No. 1 seat with a three-game lead over the second place Boston side. If the two teams finish with the same standing, Toronto then holds a tie breaker through conference record.
Boston Celtics: Even though the Celtics fans are majorly disappointed on losing out on the No. 1 seed against Toronto, there is hope for a much better record in the future. Adding to the disappointment is the fact that Kyrie Irving will not be playing this season.
Philadelphia 76ers: Fighting to remain the No. 3 seed, the Sixers just knocked off the Cavaliers in what is being regarded as the biggest win of the season up till now. If the Philadelphia side managed to retain its position, it would face the No. 6 Miami in the first round.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Even though the Cavaliers still have a shot at No. 3 seed, the chances are not very high. However, they can still hold on to the No. 4 seed with just one more win.
Indiana Pacers: Currently at No. 5 seed, the Pacers can make it to No. 4 if they win their final two games and if the Cavs lose their last two games.
Miami Heat: Most likely to remain at No. 6 seed with their half-game advantage over Milwaukee. The Miami side also holds the tiebreaker in case they end the season with the same record.
Milwaukee Bucks: Currently at the No. 7 seed, there is a possibility that the Bucks would like to remain at this position so that they get to face No. 2 seed Boston, with Kyrie Irving being out.
Washington Wizards: The No. 8 seed got to this position thanks to four straight losses. However, there is still hope if they win their last two games; they might be able to go as high as No. 6. If the current seeds hold, Washington will face the No. 1 Toronto in the first round.
