Navy Midshipmen Tickets
Steeled with discipline, programmed to follow commands to the letter, and ingrained with the instinct of never backing out of stiff challenges, the Armed Forces' code of conduct epitomizes those very traits that have made legends out of sportsmen. The continued imperious record of the Navy Midshipmen should thus come as no surprise. The Midshipmen is a collective term for the various varsity sports, club sports, and intramural sports teams of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The university is involved in 30 intervarsity sports, 12 club sports, and 19 intramural sports that are contested between opponents within the college. Participation is in the NCAA's Division I-A as a non-football member of the Patriot League, while football is played as a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision independent school; also, the Midshipmen are members of the Collegiate Sprint Football League (men), Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (men), Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges, Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League (men), and Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. Navy is also one of approximately 300 members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). With unrelenting emphasis on athletic contribution for every enrolled student, the Navy Midshipmen have maintained a competitive edge, and fans with Navy Midshipmen tickets have been treated to many enthralling contests.
The United States Naval Academy was established in 1845 on the grounds of Fort Severn in present-day Annapolis, Maryland. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, located at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay south of Baltimore. The Naval Academy's renowned emphasis on athletics has produced some remarkable sporting heroes. It is mandatory for every student to participate in some intervarsity sport, and if not, then at least take part in intramural and club sports. Victorious Midshipmen are held in high esteem with a specially designed blue cardigan containing a gold N patch affixed. If the achievement means beating the Army Black Knights in any sport designated as "Star," a gold star is added next to the N, which speaks volumes about the intense inter-service rivalry that has sold countless Navy Midshipmen tickets. Midshipmen currently hold the edge with a 54-49-7 record in the eagerly contested annual Army-Navy game, having asserted their authority with seven straight bowl victories. The facilities are top-notch, as evidenced by the Alumni Hall, which hosts basketball and wrestling events. The 5,700-seater arena's mystique is enhanced by the two memorial plazas. The Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium provides ideal baseball facilities, while the recently opened 1,600-capacity Glenn Warner Soccer Facility is a welcome addition. The Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is the site of the Midshipmen's football dominance. The 34,500-capacity stadium also hosts the men's lacrosse team. The Hubbard Hall boathouse is the home of the renowned crew team, hosting the men's lightweight/heavyweight teams and also the women's teams. The Halsey and Wesley Hall Field Houses are used for track and field games. The ice hockey rink is located at the McMullen Hockey Arena.
Chet Gladchuk is the Athletics Director of the University's sports program. The selection for each sport is done by its respective Head Coach, although expanded programs like Baseball's "Heroes of the Diamond" program are more complex, as a limited number of former Major League Baseball (MLB) players, current professionals, summer collegiate players, and first responders are allowed to join the tour. Certain sports have their own selection criteria, like Sprint Football, which emphasizes speed and agility. Players must maintain a weight of 172 lbs or less and a minimum of 5% body fat (in order to avoid eating disorders) to be eligible to play. Notable alumni include former President and Sprint Football Midshipman Jimmy Carter, two-time NBA Champion David Robinson, and Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Roger Staubach.
Men's Crew is the most prolific Navy Midshipmen sport, having produced Olympic gold medals in the men's eights in 1920 and 1952 in the heavyweight category. They also have 31 championships to their name. The lightweight crew won the national title in 2002. The fencing team won three National Championships before the sport became defunct. The Midshipmen football team won its sole National Championship in 1926 with a riveting finale against bitter rivals Army. Midshipmen have also won national titles in soccer (1964) and men's track and field (1945).
Legendary institutional pride is the hallmark of the Midshipmen. With a praiseworthy emphasis on promoting collegiate sports to prepare budding servicemen for the physical rigors of warfare, Navy Midshipmen have established quite a legacy. Navy Midshipmen tickets promise an action-packed, high-octane encounter for fans to savor.
