The team was initially founded in 1909 and has since then become one of the oldest North American sports franchises. The team is the only operational ice hockey club that pre-dates the NHL itself and the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team. Over the years, the Canadiens have proven to be the most successful hockey club by winning twenty four ‘Stanley Cups’. The team has also grabbed twenty two ‘Divisional Titles’ and eight ‘Conference Championships’.
Initially, the Canadiens played home games at the Montreal Forum. The venue became a shrine to hockey fans around the world where the team housed for almost seven decades. In 1996, the Canadiens moved to the Bell Centre that was built with an estimated cost of over three hundred and sixty million dollars. Since then, the multi-purpose arena has hosted various sporting events including MMA, hemicycle and basketball matches apart from theatre shows and concerts. The venue can now house more than twenty one thousand ice hockey fans per game.
Currently the Canadiens are lead by Head Coach Michel Therrien and General Manager Marc Bergevin. The team comprises of exceptionally talented players such as Brian Gionta, Carey Price, George Parros, Travis Moen and Lars Eller. This season the players will be storming the ice hockey fields in their traditional blue, white and red colors.
