Find Out Why 2016 MLB Home Run Derby Tickets Should Be on Your Must Buy List
- Intense Head to Head Matchups – The latest format puts players in brackets according to their seeding and this allows the crowd to enjoy a thrilling faceoff between their favorite sluggers. The excitement is at its peak and the stakes are high as it’s a single elimination style.
- No More Watching Pitches – Earlier the batters were punished with outs if they were unable to clear the fence and things got slow and boring as the crowd waited for them to hit the ball. This rule no longer applies, so the batters have an incentive to swing at every ball. It’s also a relief for the poor catchers, who now basically don’t have to do much.
- Competition has gotten tougher – The game is more intense and super exciting as now it’s every man for himself. Earlier players were put in AL and NL teams, but now they have to go head to head against players, not team.
- Timer Replaces 10-Out System – Each hitter is given 5 minutes on the plate to belt out as many home runs as possible. This speeds up the process and also brings the crowd to its feet.
- Distance Matters – Batters get a bonus time if they hit a home run that crosses a distance of either 420 feet or 475 feet. One minute is awarded for crossing 420 feet and 30 seconds for covering 475 feet distance.
- The Buzzer Beater – Ever home run hit in the final one minute is awarded with a clock pause. The timer doesn’t start again until the player either misses at a pitch or falls short of a home run. This allows hitters who trail by few runs to catch-up and of course adds more drama into the game.
- 90 Seconds Tie Resolver – In case of tie, players are given extra 90 seconds to swing off and there are no time stops or additions.
2016 Major League Baseball All Star Game and Home Run Derby will be hosted by the San Diego Padres at the Petco Park. Don’t miss it.
