Mississippi Braves is based in the beautiful town of Pearl that is part of the Rankin County in Mississippi. Initially the team started off in another city by the name of Austin Braves, then moved to Shreveport and were renamed Shreveport Braves. In 1971 the team again moved, this time to Savannah. In 1984 they shifted to Greenville and the name changed to Greenville Braves. In 2005 eventually they came to Mississippi and the name was changed to Mississippi Braves.
The team’s home arena is Trustmark Park. This is a spacious venue in Pearl and is situated on 1 Braves Way. This stadium can seat up to 5500 fans. It is also the official venue for the Governor’s Cup since 2007. The highest attendance at this venue was during the 2013 Governor Cup in the game where Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs faced off agaisnt one another. In 2011-12 the Conference USA Baseball Tournament was also held here. The Braves are an affiliate of Major League Baseball team Atlanta Braves. They play in the Southern League and their division is Southern.
Mississippi Braves baseball team has got one league title and one division title to its name. The best season for the Braves was in 2008 when they won the Southern League Series by beating the very strong Carolina Mudcats by a narrow margin of 3-2. The current team manager is Rocket Wheeler whereas the team is owned and operated by Liberty Media. Current roster includes some very gifted players like Luis Nunez, Ian Thomas, Jason Rice, Ryne Harper, Pat Egan, Ian Thomas, Aaron Holbert, Dan Brewer and Kyle Russell. In the past a number of notable players have been a part of Atlanta Braves such as Roman Colon, Scott Thorman, Chuck James, Joey Devine, Blaine Boyer and Jose Ascanio.
