The men’s basketball team led by the NBA Hall of Famer, Al McGuire won their first ever NCAA Men’s Basketball championship in 1977. At this time they were one of the favorites and were titled 8th in the Country. One of the team’s strongest win came in 2003 when Marquette led by future NBA players like Robert Jackson, Steve Novak, Travis Diener and Dwayne Wade defeated the top ranked side of Kentucky and earned a spot in the final four of the playoffs tournament. Wade was among the star performers of Marquette and became one of total four NCAA Division players to have scored a triple-double. The current roster of the team includes talented players like Vander Blue, Jamil Wilson, Davante Gardner and many others. The team have appeared in a total of 30 NCAA Tournaments and won the National championship of 1977 and were runner-ups in 1974.
