About Jacksonville Icemen
The Jacksonville Icemen have been around in various incarnations since 1992. It all started that year in Muskegon with the establishment of the Muskegon Fury. Until that point, Muskegon’s hockey flag had been carried by the Muskegon Lumberjacks (two-time Turner Cup winners)of the old International Hockey League (IHL).
With the Lumberjacks relocating to Cleveland in 1992, the Muskegon Fury were established aiming to continue the proud hockey tradition of “Skeetown.” Thus, the Fury became part of the Colonial Hockey League (CoHL) which was renamed as United Hockey League (UHL) in 1997.
A formidable outfit that was a regular championship contender, the Fury won 4 Division titles, 4 Colonial Cups and 2 regular season crowns between 1998 and 2005. In 2008, a change of ownership brought a change of name and the Muskegon Fury became the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
However, the franchise folded within the next two years. Around the same time, the United States Hockey League (USHL) awarded Muskegon the rights to an expansion team. On the other hand, the Lumberjacks owner Ron Geary bought the IHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks and moved them to Evansville.
The new Evansville IceMen team joined the Central Hockey League (CHL) where they competed for 6 seasons. In 2017, a group from Jacksonville acquired the IceMen. As a result, the side relocated to Jacksonville and joined the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
