In the first season the Rockets played, they managed to get only fifteen wins in the season. Two years later, the Rockets acquired future Hall of Famer Moses Malone. He stepped up to the task of taking the team to Conference Finals in his first year and ensured that the team made it to the NBA Finals in 1981. In 1984 the Rockets showed inspiring performances, spurred by the presence of the ‘Twin Towers’, Ralph Sampson and Hakeem Olajuwon to make it to the NBA Finals for a second time in 1984. Like the previous time, the Boston Celtics defeated the Rockets and halted their bid for an NBA crown.

Olajuwon’s tenacious efforts finally paid off in the 1994 season, when the Rockets stormed to the NBA Finals and defeated the New York Knicks to capture their first league title. The very next season, with the help of a young Shaquille O'Neal the Rockets captured their second consecutive NBA title.
