Football

The University of Houston fielded their first varsity football team in 1946. The team competes in the NCAA Division I’s Football Bowl Subdivision and their home stadium is the TDECU Stadium. The Cougars have not won a national title in football; however, they have eleven conference titles to their name.

The Cougars have played in several conferences over the course of their history and shifted to their current conference in 2014. Interestingly, the team won the inaugural Athletic Conference championship and as a consequence, the team was invited to compete in the Peach Bowl.

Basketball

The Cougars basketball team also plays in the Athletic Conference and participates in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. Over the years, the team has appeared numerous times in the tournament, but is yet to win the national championship. The Cougars have been runners up twice though, in 1983 and 1984.
