About the Track – Kansas Speedway
The track is almost as important as the race itself. Let’s have a look at some of the specifications of the Kansas Speedway. Construction of this track began back in the May of 1999. The Construction Celebration had several big names in attendance, including NASCAR drivers Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Kenny Schrader. The ticket sales for this track began in July 1999 and the first purchase was made by Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee George Brett.
Soon the events started to flow in. In November of 1999, NASCAR and Indy Racing League made an announcement to bring events for its inaugural racing season in 2001. In August 2000, the tickets for Kansas Speedway went on sale for the residents of Wyandotte County, followed by the rest of the world five days later.
The inaugural race at the track was the weekend running the NASCAR Winston West Series Kansas 150 and the ACRA RE/MAX Series BPU 200.

The Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway officially opened on 3rd February 2012, overlooking Turn 2 of Kansas Speedway. Since then, the Kansas Speedway has been home to the Hollywood Casino 400.
About Hollywood Casino 400
The Hollywood Casino 400 is the fifth race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, and the second race of the Round of 12. The race was among six of the ten annual races in the NASCAR Cup Series during the 2012 season. However, in 2013, it returned to being the fourth of the ten Chase races. 2015 saw the race move from the fourth to fifth race for the Chase. Currently NBC has the rights for the final 20 races of the season, including the Hollywood Casino 400.
Past Winners of the Hollywood Casino 400
Since the first race in 2001, the Hollywood Casino 400 has seen a lot of big names make their way to the Kansas Speedway to compete in this prestigious race. The first team to win was Hendricks Motorsports, lead by driver Jeff Gordon, along with manufacturer Chevrolet. The 400.5 mile, 267 lap race lasted almost four hours with average speeds of 110.576 mph. The second winner was also Jeff Gordon, driving for the same team again. In 2003, the victory shifted to Dodge, with Ryan Newman from Penske Racing taking home the title in 3 hours and 17 minutes. The 2004 race was won by Joe Nemechek of MB2 Motorsports, with manufacturer Chevrolet. With an average speed of 128.058 mph, this race finished in 3 hours and 7 minutes.
In 2005, the race was won by Mark Martin of Roush Racing, along with manufacturer Ford. The race finished in 2 hours and 54 minutes with an average speed of 137.774. The 2006 race was won by Tony Stewart of Stewart-Haas Racing, followed by a win by Greg Biffle in 2007 and by Jimmie Johnson in 2008. In 2009, Tony Steward returned to claim the title again, followed again by Greg Biffle in 2010 and Jimmie Johnson in 2011. In 2012, Matt Kenseth from Roush Fenway Racing won the first race on the new configuration. The next cycle in 2013 was won by Kevin Harvick from Richard Childress Racing with manufacturer Chevrolet, followed in 2014 by Joey Logano. Logano also won the 2015 race from the same Team Penske, with Ford as his manufacturer. The 2015 race was extended to 269 laps due to a green-white-checker finish. The last race, held in October 2016 was won by Kevin Harvick as well from the Stewart-Haas Racing. The race went on for 3 hours, with the average speed being 133. 155 mph.
