The Golden State Warriors went to the top of the pile in 2015 to mark a stunning turnaround in their fortunes. Prior to them winning the NBA Championship last season, they hadn’t had anything to shout about for quite a few years so their ascend to the top did surprise quite a few people.

The First Steps

The Golden State Warriors trace their roots back to the year 1946 when they were formed as the Philadelphia Warriors. The name was changed to the San Francisco Warriors in 1962 and that remained the case till 1971 when they took on their current title.

The Warriors’ journey to the top began immediately after formation as they won the conference title and the league championship in 1947. That was followed by two more conference crowns in 1948 and 1956. On top of that, the franchise also clinched its second league title in 1956.

Post 1956-Present

The Warriors won two more conference championships in 1964 and 1967. The 1970’s saw them pick up their first two division titles in 1975 and 1976 along with one conference championship in 1975. They also lifted their third league title that year. That was as good as it got for the Warriors till 2015. They stunned many by first winning the division title and then following that up by lifting the NBA Championship.
