The Golden Boy Boxing Series is a spectacular series of boxing and MMA events by Golden Boy Promotions, one of the best known promotions in combat sports. It was founded by former boxer and six division World Champion, Oscar De La Hoya, who is widely known by the nickname, The Golden Boy. It is based in Los Angeles and began operations in 2002. It became the first national boxing promotional company owned by a Hispanic. In 2006, the fifth year of the promotion’s life, it broke records when it sold more than two million pay–per–views. Similarly, Golden Boy Boxing Series tickets sales have also broken more than one record.
Today, Golden Boy Boxing Series is one of the most respected and active promoters in boxing whose shows and matches take place in the biggest venues in the US and are broadcast on such networks as ESPN, HBO, Telefutura, HBO Latino and Showtime. They are behind some of the most popular programs and events, such as Fight Night Club, a boxing series held each month and sponsored by DeWalt Tools. This series takes place at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia and is broadcast live on Fox Sports Net and many others.
This promotion, behind such events as the Golden Boy Boxing Series, also co promoters with other promotions, including Bob Arum's Top Rank, Gary Shaw Productions, Main Events, Lou Dibella and Murad Mohammad. As a company, it has also invested in a number of Spanish language newspapers in the US and products, as well as a stake in the Houston Dynamos, an American pro soccer franchise. Oscar De La Hoya is the present founder of the promotion with Richard Schaefer as the CEO. Eric Gomez is the matchmaker with Bruce Binkow as the CMO.
This is a promotion that is home to many great fighters. Abner Mares, a Mexican bantamweight fighter, is one of them, who has won the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship. Eric Morel, from Puerto Rico, is yet another Bantamweight fighter with Charles Huerta from the US a member of the Junior Featherweight class, as is Nestro Rocha from Mexico. Juan Velasquez, from Puerto Rico, is a Junior Featherweight fighter in the promotion. In the Featherweight class, fighters include Manuel Avila from the US, Randy Caballero from the US, Daneil Ponce De Leon from Mexico, Antonio Escalante from Mexico, Jhonny Gonzalez from Mexico who has won the WBC Featherweight Championship and Chris John from Indonesia who has been the WBA Featherweight Super Champion.
Other Featherweight boxers include Ronny Rios from the US, Israel Velasquez from Mexico, Carlos Velasquez from Puerto Rico and Derrick Wilson from the US. Other notable fighters include Ring Magazine WBO WBA Lightweight Super Champion Juan Manuel Marquez, Ring Magazine WBA WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Danny Garcia and WBA Regular Light Welterweight Champion Marcos Maidana, each of whom deserves to be seen live via Golden Boy Boxing Series tickets.
