Frozen Four Tickets

Frozen Four Tickets

Just like nearly every other college sport in the US, ice hockey also has its own NCAA tournament. The finals and semi–finals of the tournament are referred to as the Frozen Four. The Frozen Four features four of the best collegiate teams in the country for that season. The 2014 champions are the Union College Dutchmen while the women's Frozen Four's current reigning champion is Minnesota. In terms of the most wins, the Michigan Wolverines lead the men's tally with nine championships. The Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs hold the women's record, with five tournament wins. Get Frozen Four tickets and watch live action from the premier college ice hockey tournament in the country.

Each year, the best four college ice hockey teams in the US face each other at the NCAA Frozen Four tournament. Founded in 1948, this event marks the semi–finals and finals of the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship. The championship itself pits sixteen of the best colleges in the US against each other. The current NCAA Division I champions are the Union College Dutchmen. On TV, the event is exclusively broadcast live on ESPN. Many, however, opt to catch the game live, after ordering Frozen Four tickets.

The Frozen Four name was inspired by the Final Four, which refers to the final rounds of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. During the 2000 to 2001 season, a Women's Frozen Four tournament was also initiated.

The tournament is associated with the Frozen Four weekend, during which the USCHO.com Town Hall Meeting, the Hockey Humanitarian Award and the Hobey Baker Award ceremonies take place. The winner of the NCAA Frozen Four automatically becomes the number one team in the US, making this the most competitive set of games in the NCAA.

The NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Championship is a single elimination style tournament. The sixteen teams that participate in the tournament represent the six NCAA Division-I conferences. The initial games in the tournament are played at four different sites, while the semi–finals and finals played at a single venue.

Since its founding in 1948, the tournament has been held the most times at Colorado Springs's Broadmoor Ice Palace. The college with the most number of championship wins is Michigan University. As a result, the Michigan Wolverines have been ranked number one in the nation nine times.

The tournament's format has changed with time. It initially featured four teams, but the number increased to twelve in the late eighties as it became more popular. In 2003, this number moved to sixteen, with four teams appearing from each region.

The Michigan Wolverines won the first ever championship in 1948. More recently, five–time champions, the Boston College Eagles, won the tournament in 2010 after defeating the Wisconsin Badgers 5–0. In 2011, the Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs emerged as champions, with Boston College emerging triumphant in 2012. In 2013, Yale University's Bulldogs won the championship after defeating the Quinnipiac Bobcats. The reigning champions are the Union Dutchmen, who defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers in 2014.

In 2015, the NCAA Men's Frozen Four will be held at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Venues for the next three editions have also been decided; Tampa's Amalie Arena, Chicago's United Center and Saint Paul's Xcel Energy Center.

Though women's ice hockey teams have been active since the seventies, a tournament exclusively for women teams was established much later. The NCAA Women's Frozen Four was founded in 2000 and is held in a similar manner to the Men's Frozen Four. The game's founding coincided with the NCAA recognizing women's ice hockey as a sanctioned sport.

The winner of the first ever NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey tournament were the Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs, who defeated the St. Lawrence Skating Saints 4–2.  Unlike the men's tournament, both Division I and Division II teams compete in the women’s tournament. The Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs hold the record for the most championships wins, with five. They are followed closely by Minnesota, who have won four.

You now have a chance to catch the tournament live. Watch some of the best emerging ice hockey players in the country in action, by getting Frozen Four tickets.
