FIFA World Cup 2014 is just around the corner, and the stakes are high. Defending champions, Spain have a lot of pressure as Brazil and France are doing well, and then comes Italy. France, being in good form is ready to turn the tables as well. Recently its coach, Philippe Saint-Andre has made several changes in the team. There are several matches till the World Cup game; however, the French players are high in spirits and looking forward to the initial games that will be played against Switzerland and Ecuador. France tickets have been made available for these games and are selling fast.
French national football team was formed around the same time that the foundations of FIFA were being laid, that is 1904. It played its very first international game against Belgium the same year, which ended in a draw. This was followed by their first ever home game, which was played almost a year later against Switzerland. Around 500 spectators came to witness the live match, which the team won 1 – 0. In July of 1930, in Uruguay, the inaugural FIFA World Cup was held and France was a part of it. Their player, Lucien Laurent was the first football player to score in the World Cup series. However, the team couldn’t make it past the qualification stage. For the upcoming World Cup games, France tickets have now been made available.
France has gone through three major “golden eras” till day, which were the 50s, 80s and 90s. These three decades brought the team several accomplishments and honors. During the 50s, some of the finest football players formed the first Golden Generation of France football. These included, Raymond Kopa, Just Fontaine, Thadee Cisowski and Jean Vincent. First time, the team made it to the semi-finals in 1958 FIFA World Cup, but lost to Brazil. In the third rank game, France managed to beat West Germany by the score of 6 – 2.
Following two decades saw France declining significantly. The team became victim of continuous management changes and failed to make it to several international tournaments. This was the era when France couldn’t even qualify for the World Cup or European Nation’s Cup. This was followed by a streak of disappointments, until Michel Hidalgo was put in charge of the team. Under him, the French team flourished, specifically because of installation of several great players to the roster. Some of these were, Maxime Bossis, Marius Tresor and Michel Platni. In 1982, once again the team managed to regain its glory and made it to the World Cup semi-finals, this time around losing to their rivals, West Germany.
Two years after the World Cup, France won against Spain, 2 – 0, to bag the UEFA Euro title. The next decade, the 90s proved to be good for the team as well, and brought them their first and only FIFA World Cup in 1998. The 1998 FIFA World Cup was hosted by France itself, and the final game was played against Brazil, which the team won 3 – 0. However, this concluded their golden eras. Since 2000s, the team has struggled and has seen major ups and downs. Now in 2014 FIFA World Cup, France is determined to regain its lost glory. If you are a supporter, now is the time to support your team in its upcoming games. Make it to the stadium with your France tickets this World Cup.
