The Dirt Late Model Dream is a racing series that was initiated in 1994. Currently operating under the banner of United Midwest Promoters, the competition presents sanctioned races. Ever since its formation, the event has featured a race schedule spread over three days. Usually taking place during the summer time, the first two days of the Dirt Late Model Dream provides the professional drivers with a bounty of fifty three thousand dollars. The races that can help the drivers win the amount include multi-car qualifying laps, last chance races, heat races and 25-lap twin features. A total of twenty four drivers put up a competitive front to win as much prizes as they can. The third day marks the closing of the racing series, as twenty eight drivers prepare to engage in grueling contests to win the hundred thousand dollars. The event usually starts off with six heat races to warm up the drivers. The competition then holds the last chance features, after which the infamous hundred lap race is inaugurated. The twenty eight racers who take part in these races are those who have set the record of fastest qualifying laps in the previous two day events.
The first winner of the racing series was Freddy Smith from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The driver with most number of wins is Scott Bloomquist from Mooresburg, Tennessee with a whopping amount of five wins. Bagging a total prize of five hundred thousand dollars, Bloomquist won in the years, 1995, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008. He is closely followed by Billy Moyer who has achieved victory first in 1998 and then 2010. Last year’s winner who will be defending his title as the champion is Shane Clanton from Fayetteville, Georgia. Starting his career as a professional racer in 1994, Clanton is known as the Georgia Bulldog. He is considered to be one of the best racers in America, winning countless events over a time period of eighteen years. Some of the contests Clanton has won include the Lucas Oil Series, All-Star Late Model Series, Ice Bowl Event, Georgia Challenge, Short Track, the Tar Heel 50 and Turkey Rumble, amongst countless others. Apart from these victories, Clanton has also won the WoO LMS title a total of fifteen times, establishing a record of becoming the only driver to score a win in each season since 2004.
