Czech Republic Tickets
The Czech Republic has a proud history in international sports. The country has been represented at the highest level in a number of international sporting events and they have enjoyed success in a number of sports. However, the two most popular sports in the country are soccer and ice hockey. With six World Championships to their name, the country has been most successful in the latter. The country has produced numerous great sportsmen in various sports like Petr Cech, Pavel Nedved, Jaromir Jagr and Ivan Lendl, and continues to spurn out ever greater players. The Czech Republic is scheduled to participate in a number of tournaments in the future and you can watch their games live by getting Czech Republic tickets.
The Czech Republic came into formation in 1993, after the breakup of Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia had established a reputation as a sports giant, especially in ice hockey, where the former republic had won six World Championships. In soccer, the old country was also pretty successful and twice finished as runners up in the World Cup and managed to win Euro 1976.
Men's National Ice Hockey Team
The Czech Republic’s Men’s Hockey team is considered as one of the big six teams of ice hockey in the world, alongside Canada, the United States, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The sport is so popular in the country, that more than seventy thousand players are registered in organized hockey leagues in the world.
Due to the success of the Czechoslovakian hockey team, the sport had become hugely popular in the Czech Republic. The new country kept on producing new talent and the Czech Republic became a powerhouse in the sports once again.
From 1996 to 2001, the country’s national team won six World Championship medals, including four gold medals and two bronze medals. The team was so dominant during that era that they won three consecutive gold medals from 1999-2001. Overall, the country has six gold medals, one silver medal and five bronze medals in the World Championships. Their last triumph came at the 2010 event, where they won their sixth gold.
The Czech Republic won their first Olympic Gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. Their next podium finish came eight years later, when they secured the Bronze Medal at the Turin Games in 2006.
Unsurprisingly, the country has produced numerous star players, several of whom made a name for themselves in the National Hockey League. The most prominent of these is Jaromir Jagr, who is still active in the league. Jagr is the most prolific European player to have played in the NHL and is currently the leading all time point scorer among active players. Aged 44, he is now the oldest player in the league and holds the record for being the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the NHL. Other prominent stars include Dominik ‘The Dominator’ Hasek, Tomas Kaberle, Patrik Eliasm Robert Lang, Ales Hemsky and Milan Michalek.
Men’s National Soccer Team
The Czech national soccer team has seen a tumultuous few years since the golden days of Czechoslovakia’s dominance.
The national team participated in their first international tournament in 1996 at the European championships. They played very well and progressed to the final, where they faced Germany. The Germans emerged 2-1 winners after a closely contested final, which ended in extra time after a golden goal.
The Czech Republic has continued to qualify for the Euro championships since its birth but is yet to win it. The country reached the semi finals of the 2004 tournament on the back of Milan Baros’ goals, but lost to eventual winners Greece after extra time, in the penultimate stage. They also suffered heartache at the last Euros in 2012, where they reached the quarter finals, but were beaten by Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
Unfortunately, the team’s success in the European Championships hasn’t extended to the World Cup. The team’s only appearance in soccer’s ultimate tournament came in 2006; the team was ranked second in the world and was expected to do very well. However, they bowed out of the tournament meekly after failing to progress beyond the group stage. They have failed to qualify for the World Cup since then.
The Czech Republic has produced some great soccer players, who have gone on to play for some of the biggest clubs in the world. The country’s most famous son is Pavel Nedved, who won the Ballon D’Or in 2003 and achieved widespread success with Italian club Juventus. Notable Czech players currently active include the national team captain, Petr Cech, who is currently at Arsenal FC and his Arsenal teammate Thomas Rosicky.
There are several international tournaments coming up which will feature the Czech Republic. The Euro Championships will be held in summer 2016, while the World Cup of Hockey will be staged at the end of the year. Alongside these, other events featuring the country will also take place.
