The CONCACAF Gold Cup is the premier soccer tournament in the region that includes top national teams from Central America, the Caribbean and North America. This was the first of three straight Gold Cup triumphs for the Mexicans. The USA have been their most frequent opponents in the final. Both sides have played each other 5 times for the right to be called CONCACAF Champions. Mexico have prevailed in 4 of these encounters.

United States

Except for Mexico hosting two editions, every other Gold Cup has been held in the United States. The near perpetual Gold Cup hosts are 6-time champions which makes them the competition’s second most successful side.

Other Contenders

With Mexico and the United States winning the Gold Cup 13 times between them so far, the only other team to win was Canada. The Canucks’ achieved this feat back in 2000 after overcoming a formidable Colombian team.

Some other teams who could go all the way this summer include Costa Rica and Jamaica. Having suffered heartbreak in the final in 2015 and 2017, the Jamaicans will be especially motivated to win the big one.
