The Clemson Tigers played their first season as a basketball team in 1911-1912 and have become a regular mainstay in the college basketball scene. The Tigers are one of the founding members of the Atlantic Coast Conference and have been playing in the ACC since its inception in 1953.

Over the course of the program’s history, the Clemson Tigers have been conference regular season champions once (1990), conference tournament winners once (1939) and have appeared in the NCAA tournament eleven times. The Tigers’ best finish in the tournament is to reach the Elite Eight, which they accomplished in 1980.
In the late 2000s, the Tigers had one of the best college basketball teams in the country, but they failed to win the elusive NCAA title. From 2008-2011, the Tigers made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, but have failed to reach the tournament since then.
