Not The First Cyclones

The Cincinnati Cyclones, as they are known today, were established in 1995, but they are not the first team to use the name. The original Cyclones, who used the name, were formed in 1990 and were members of the ECHL. The owner was then granted a new team in the IHL and he decided to move the Cyclones there. In 1992, the Cyclones began playing as a member of the International Hockey League, while the old ECHL team was sold.

ECHL Return

The Louisville RiverFrogs were formed in 1995, but three years later they moved to Miami to become the Matadors. They won a division title in Louisville. After only one season, the team was sold to a consortium from Birmingham, who began looking for a new place for the team. When the International Hockey League (IHL) folded, the name of the Cyclones was given to this side and they began playing in 2001.

Since 2001, the Cyclones have gone on to win three division titles, three conference crowns, two Kelly Cups, and one regular season title. Now they are looking to add to that number this season. If you want to join them on the ride, get your Cincinnati Cyclones tickets as soon as possible.
