Get to Know the Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals came into being in 1966. They were part of the old American Football League (AFL). Paul Brown, the former head coach of the Cleveland Browns, laid the foundations of the Bengals. He was both the owner and the first head coach of the new franchise.

From inception until 1975, Brown oversaw the team from the dugout. The Pro Football Hall of Famer continued to serve as the franchise president until he passed away in 1991. The Bengals debuted in the AFL in 1968, two years before the big merger.

After the merger, the side from the Queen City joined the NFL as part of the Central Division of the American Football Conference (AFC). They have since moved to the North Division. The Bengals play their home games at the Paul Brown Stadium. It has served as their home arena since the turn of the century.
