Boston University Terriers as evident from the name is a group of twenty-one varsity teams, which take part in a number of college sports games under the patronage of Boston University. The Terriers since debut are headquartered in the scenic city of Boston. The Boston University Terriers are often nicknamed as the Terriers. They play in the NCAA Division 1 and are part of the Patriot League Athletic Conference. The Patriot League includes other college teams like United States Naval Academy, College of the Holy Cross, Colgate University, United States Military Academy and Loyola University Maryland. The official mascot of the team is Rhett the Boston Terrier. The current athletics director is Mike Lynch. Official fight song is Go B.U., whereas the colors are white and scarlet.
The twenty-one varsity teams of the Terriers comprise of 9 men and 12 women teams. These teams actively participate in various games such as swimming, basketball, soccer, ice hockey, track and field, rowing, hockey and lacrosse. The home arena for basketball matches is the very popular Agganis Arena that is located on 925 Common Wealth Avenue in Boston. This arena has the capacity for almost 7000 fans and is not just used for basketball games but also for ice hockey, concerts and stage events. Both Bostone University Terriers men and women ice hockey team enjoy a truly impressive record. Till date the Terriers have won an amazing twelve Conference Tournament Championships and five NCAA Tournament Championships. In the game of hockey the Boston University Terriers have a fierce and famous rivalry with their neighboring Boston College. This rivalry is often known as the Green Line Rivalry. The reason it is called Green Line Rivalry is mainly due to the green color trolley line that connects these two colleges through the transit system of Boston. Both the colleges have played hockey and football games in this rivalry. When it comes to ice hockey the Terriers lead with 129 wins against 116 losses. In the game of football Boston College has been on the top with 27 wins and just 4 losses.
