The forthcoming series of tennis events are part of the BNP Paribas Open Tournament. Expected to be held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the competition is known to bring forth cash prizes worth $4,500,000. Inaugurated in 2000, the tennis garden cost a whopping amount of $77 million to construct. The venue is currently operated and owned by Larry Ellison, Raymond Moore and Charlie Pasarell of the PM Sports Management Group. Home to the BNP Paribas Open Championship, the facility can cater to as much as sixteen thousand attendees in its stadium court. Apart from the BNP Paribas Open, the venue is also known for hosting adult and junior USTA events that occur throughout the year as well as countless local competitions.

With a total of eleven match courts, two clay courts and six practice courts, the vicinity is the second largest tennis stadium of the world. Apart from tennis games, the Indian Well Tennis Garden has also hosted National Basketball Association pre-season games in 2008. This game featured the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns and with this established the record of being the first NBA outdoor game since 1972. If all this wasn’t enough, the tennis garden also holds concerts on a regular basis. Recent performances have been made by Tom Petty, the Who, the Eagles, RBD and Andrea Bocelli. It’s that time of the year again when the Indian Wells Tennis Garden invites tennis fans to become witness to yet another edition of the BNP Paribas Open Tournament.

Inaugurated back in 1974, the Indian Wells Master Championship is a premier mandatory annual event that is part of the Masters 1000. Founded by Raymond Moore and Charlie Pasarell, the tennis event is currently owned by Larry Ellison, the co-owner of Oracle. Each year the tournament is always played on hard courts with 96 players. The format of the games presents a 128-player grid with the main play extending beyond 8 days.

Before being named the BNP Paribas Open, the men’s tournament was originally named the American Airlines Tennis Games from 1974 till 1978. Over the years the competition underwent several name changes as its sponsors changed. Before becoming the BNP Paribas Open in 2009, it was named the Pacific Life Open from 2002 till 2008. The women’s annual tournament was initially held a week before the men’s tournament. It was first named Virginia Slims of Indian Wells till 1990 and similar to the men’s tournament, it was called the Pacific Life Open before becoming the BNP Paribas Open.

Over the years several of the most acclaimed tennis players have played on the grounds of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, aiming to bag the big win. Some of these players include Roger Federer, Marc Lopez, Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal, Xavier Mallise, Mark Knowles, Daniel Nestor, Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams, Nadia Petrova and Venus Williams. Players who have been able to establish records for the most number of wins includes “Most Singles Titles” made by Roger Federer with four wins, the “Most Number of Consecutive Singles’ Titles” by Roger Federer again with three wins and “Most Appearances in Singles Finals” made by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, each with four appearances.
