Formed as a franchise in 1946 under the name of Buffalo Bisons, the Atlanta Hawks is an American professional basketball team. The team is based in Atlanta, Georgia, with Mike Woodson as its coach in his fifth season. Center Don Otten and coach Nat Hickey were the team's first stars, and in 1946, the team moved to Illinois at the discretion of owner Ben Kerner. The region was then known as "Tri-Cities" and is now labeled as Quad Cities. Kerner thus named the team the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, due to its association with a war fought in Illinois. If you wish to catch the team live in action, then don't wait any longer to purchase your Atlanta Hawks tickets.

The team has had a successful career, though not free of recurrent failures. In 1957, the team lost to the Boston Celtics in Game 7. Under coach Alex Hannum, the Hawks progressed to the NBA Finals, winning the NBA Championship. In the coming decade, the team occupied a prime spot in the NBA. The Celtics again defeated the Atlanta Hawks in a thrilling Game 7 in the Finals in 1960. They regained their lost ground with new rookie Lenny Wilkens, but lost again to the Celtics in the Finals in five games.
The Atlanta Hawks played well over the years, fetching several division titles and going deep into the playoffs. Kerner had to face the choice of moving the stadium to St. Louis Arena from the old venue of Kiel Auditorium since it was waning out. However, since the new stadium had not been well maintained so it stopped him to do so and he wished to have a new arena for increased income. Towards the late 60's, Atlanta real estate developer and Governor of Georgia bought the team, and thus the team moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

The Atlanta Hawks performed progressively in the later years, but success was not continuous. They went through a period of rebuilding, ultimately landing in the top picks of the 1975 NBA Draft. Billy Knight became the general manager of The Atlanta Hawks, steering the team in the right direction. He left the team in July 2008, put off by some politics in the team management attempting to fire coach Mike Woodson. The team is currently faring very well, having its first season full of wins since 1989-99, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves and earning a home-court advantage over the Miami Heat in the playoffs. The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Miami Heat in several games, showing what a brilliant team they are with a long way to go!
