The Arizona Coyotes are an ice hockey team that competes in the National Hockey League. The Coyotes are members of the Western Conference and compete in the Pacific Division. They were established as a franchise of the World Hockey Association in 1971 and were known as the Winnipeg Jets back then. In 1979 the Coyotes became members of the NHL when the WHA ceased its operations. They were one of the four teams who became a part of the NHL. The Arizona Coyotes play all their home games at the Gila River Arena. The Arena has been their home since December 2003. Get Arizona Coyotes tickets and catch the team live in action, as they play against different teams.
Top Performer Tickets
- The Coyotes have only won one trophy in the NHL. That was a division championship during the 2011-2012 season.
- Keith Tkachuk holds the franchise’s record for most goals in a season. He scored 52 during the 1996-1997 season.
- The Jets were the most successful franchise in the short lived WHA, making it to the finals five times in the competition’s seven seasons.
- The franchise was founded in 1972 as the Winnipeg Jets.
The Arizona Coyotes were initially known as the Winnipeg Jets, a team of the WHA formed in 1971. They continued to play as the Winnipeg Jets till 1996 and became members of the NHL in 1979. The Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and changed their name to the Phoenix Coyotes accordingly. In June 2014, they adopted their current name - the Arizona Coyotes.
The Coyotes have put up some fighting performances in their previous seasons. They made three consecutive playoff appearances from 2009 to 2011. They were stopped by the Red Wings in the Conference quarter finals in 2009 and 2010 but they made it to the conference finals for the 2011 – 2012 season. They were the Pacific Division champions for the 2011 – 12 season. Now you can get Arizona Coyotes tickets and watch the team as they constantly try to improve their performance.
The Coyotes have Dave Tippet as their head coach, who is a former player. He has played for the Washington Capitals, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Before serving as head coach of the Coyotes, Tippet was the head coach of the Houston Aeros and the Dallas Stars. In his first season with the Coyotes, he managed to get fifty wins and established a new club record. The Coyotes made it to the playoffs but lost to the Detroit Red Wings. Tippet’s effort of turning a club around, which was facing uncertainty in the NHL, was recognized and he was given the Jack Adams Award for NHL Coach of the Year in 2010.
Before the Coyotes moved into their new arena, they used to play in the America West Arena. It served as their home arena for over seven years. The decision for a new arena came into effect in 2003 and the Coyotes moved to the newer Gila River Arena. The arena had a cost of two hundred and twenty million associated with it. The arena, which can house up to nineteen thousand people, saw the first playoff game played in 2010 when the Coyotes played against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Arizona Coyotes have managed to somewhat strengthen their defense thanks to the reliable performance of their defenders Zbynek Michalek and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Coyotes have a tendency to lose the lead and concede goals. Last season there were twenty four instances when they blew their lead and ended up losing the game. Coach Tippet has also acknowledged this frailty in their game play and pledged to improve it. Get Arizona Coyotes tickets and watch the Coyotes as they put in their best effort and try to mirror the outcome of their 2011 – 12 season.
