How the seeds were planted

The seeds for the formation of All Elite Wrestling were planted when Dave Meltzer commented that Ring of Honor (ROH) was unable to sell 10,000 tickets for a wrestling event. The professional wrestler, Cody Rhodes along with The Young Bucks who were then signed to ROH took this as a challenge and responded to Meltzer's comment by announcing an independent wrestling event called, All In. Held in September 2018, the show became a huge hit and was attended by more than 11,000 people. Due to the enormous success of the event, Rhodes & Bucks decided to expand their ambition and introduce their own professional wrestling promotion.

The dawn of AEW

A couple of months later, Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and many other wrestlers left Ring of Honor and soon, the news of AEW's creation broke out on January 1, 2019. Shahid Khan was named as the owner of the promotion while his son and longtime wrestling fan, Tony Khan was labeled as president and CEO of the company.  Rhodes, Bucks and Kenny Omega are the executive vice president of the promotion.
