AEW: A Game-Changer in Pro Wrestling
There was perhaps never a better time to be a wrestling fan. The dawn and the relatively swift rise of AEW has already made fans and pundits draw comparisons between the upstart promotion and the mighty WWE. That is quite a label to live up to whichever way you look at it. However, it isn’t without reason.
In 2019, AEW’s various free-for-streaming and pay-per-view events set quite a high bar in terms of in-ring action, quality of promos and the talent on the roster. Critics and fans alike had plenty to be excited about. And the beginning of the weekly AEW: Dynamite, the company’s flagship program, in October, 2019, proved that Cody Rhodes and Tony Khan mean business with their new venture.
With the backing of Khan’s billionaire father Shahid Khan, a veteran in sports management and the owner of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, AEW has got the kind of deep pockets needed to challenge big guns like the WWE. And wrestling fans have already seen the quality of their product.
In fact, comparisons between the WWE and the AEW had started even before the newest name in the pro wrestling world organized its maiden pay-per-view. And they have increased steadily after that. Moreover, since AEW: Dynamite started airing on TNT, it has given tough competition to WWE NXT and has already won multiple Nielsen Ratings battles during the Wednesday Night Wars. Considering how far the AEW has come in such a short time, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Also, the fact that the WWE lost one of its biggest superstars (Dean Ambrose) to the AEW in 2019 is proof that the young promotion has the ability to lure big names. Ambrose’s “defection” to the AEW, where he now performs under the ring name “Jon Moxley,” can be considered a major coup. He was a big fans’ favorite in the WWE and his presence in the AEW will certainly bring in greater viewership for its shows.
All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite
In October, 2019, the AEW kicked off its flagship program titled All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite on TNT. The weekly show averaged 1.409 million viewers. At the same time, WWE NXT made its debut on USA Network and averaged 891,000 viewers.
Since then, Dynamite has often stayed ahead of NXT in the weekly ratings. With the likes of former WWE superstars Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, Jon Moxley and Jake Hager along with talented performers like Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks on its roster, you can expect plenty of excitement. So, grab your All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite tickets at the earliest.
