Every year for the past two decades, the Alamodome thunders and shakes during the clash between the teams from the NCAA's Big 12, Big 10 and Pac-12 conferences. Back in the 19th century, it was oil that was the biggest attraction in Texas. Today it is the Alamo Bowl with a $ 3 million payout. The game is usually played towards the end of December in front of around 65,000 spectators that crowd the San Antonio's Alamodome located in the "Great State of Texas." The 2017 Alamo Bowl marks the championship’s 25th anniversary and executives are in the talks about how best to mark this historic feat. Fans can expect the venue, Alomodome, to be lit up with extra-special celebrations this season. Claim some Alamo Bowl tickets now to rock out this year with a football fiesta.

The Alamo Bowl kicked things off in 1993 and was initially dubbed as the Builders Square Alamo. After being called so for the next five years, it was renamed as the Sylvania Alamo Bowl after Osram Sylvania, the lighting manufacturer bought the naming rights. 2002 saw the name of the game being changed again to MasterCard Alamo Bowl. It was in 2007 that it acquired some local flavor courtesy its current moniker of Valero Alamo Bowl, following the purchasing of naming rights by the San Antonio based Valero Energy Corporation.

On the onset, the Alamo Bowl was also open to the top teams from Big 12, Big 10 and Southwest Conference (SWC). However, this arrangement did not pan out as in the first season, only two of the eight teams from the conference became eligible for participation and even they were committed to play in other bowls. Though the SWC was able to enter two of its teams in the next two seasons of the bowl but then it soon disbanded.

Right from the inaugural game that took place between the teams of California and Iowa, with the former clinching the win by a huge margin of 34 points, the Alamo Bowl has been a resounding success. It generates a lot of commercial activity in terms of the screening rights that are sold to ESPN and the revenue from the ticket sales alone has been to the tune of around $ 380 million. The attendance records have been astonishing with last year's game between Baylor and Washington packing in more than 65,000 fans. 2010 was also notable for being the first time that two bowl games were played in the same year, with the game initially slated for 2009 being played in January 2010 and then the regularly scheduled one being held in December.

The team with the most Alamo Bowl wins is Nebraska's Cornhuskers who have emerged victorious each of the three times they made it to the Alamo Bowl. They are followed by Iowa, Penn State and Purdue with two wins each. The most recent champions are Baylor Bears, having clawed their way to their first victory by defeating the Washington Huskies. The event is gearing up to be another yearly football frenzy this time around too so be a part of it all by getting your Alamo Bowl tickets now.

2019 Valero Alamo Bowl: Texas vs. Utah

The 2019 Valero Alamo Bowl pitches the Texas Longhorns against the No. 11 Utah Utes. The Longhorns finished the regular season at 7-5 and will now meet No. 11 Utah that went 11-2. The big day when the two face off is December 31 at the Alamodome. It will mark the fourth appearance of the Texas in San Antonio having played before in the 2006, 2012 and 2013 Alamo Bowls. For the Utes it is the first time in the Alamo Bowls. Utah boasts of one of the top defenses.  The Longhorns won their only game against the Utes back in 1982.
