Ziggy Marley usually performs live with his band, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, all over destinations in the world. Ziggy was a nickname his father, Bob Marley, named him after the soccer move of the same name. His musical career began when he alongwith his brothers and sister performed the song Children Playing in the Streets with Bob Marley. They became known as the Melody Makers and continued to perform live at various events and with Bob Marley. Their first release was titled as Play the Game Right, following it up with Conscious Party in 1988, a very popular album critically and commercially. In 1989, One Bright Day was released and in 1991, Jahmekya was released through Virgin Records.

Two more albums were released by Ziggy Marley and his band, the Melody Makers. In 1993, Joy and the Blues came out. He also went on to work with the United Nations and started a label known as Ghetto Youths Crew. In 2003, he released a solo album titled as Dragonfly, his first, to much critical acclaim. In 2006, he released his second album titled as Love Is My Religion. This album went on to received a Grammy Award as the Best Album, tallying his Grammy Awards to a surprising four. In 2009, Ziggy Marley released his third solo album. This time, it was a children’s album which was titled as Family Time and it featured a number of groups and artists including Family and Friends, Cedella Marley, Rita Marley, Judah Marley, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, Laurie Berkner, Toots Hibbert and Elizabeth Mitchell. It was so successful that it received a Grammy Award for the Best Musical Album for Children. He has also released many hit singles including True To Myself, People Get Ready, Drive and Tommorow People, which have ranked high on charts such as the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2011, Ziggy Marley released his fourth album, titled as Wild and Free, with the title track released first and featuring renowned artist Woody Harrelson. It was available with a comic book he had released, titled as Marijuanaman. Alongwith the Melody Makers, he has contributed songs to Disney abums, featuring the likes of Elton John, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen. He has appeared on TV numerous times and even starred on shows such as Family Matters and Charmed. With the Melody Makers, he even appeared on an episode of Sesame Street, singing a version of the group’s song from one of their albums.
