Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn jointly known as Sylvan Esso is an up and coming electropop duo based in Durham. The band made its presence felt by releasing a couple of singles titled, Hey Mami and Play it Right. Hey Mami was chosen as the song of the week in March 2014 by Robin Young and Jeremy Hobson of “Here and Now” whereas Play it Right was described by Bust Magazine as, “two sounds and two souls coming together.”

Book your Sylvan Esso tickets and watch what the hype is all about live up, close and personal.
Before the formation of Sylvan Esso, Amelia Meath was involved with a trio, collectively known as the Mountain Man. When she wrote the song Play it Right, Meath contacted Nick Sanborn, an electronic music producer working under the name Made of Oak, to give it his own spin.
After doing an obligatory remix of the track, Nick for the first time ever felt that he had added something new without subtracting anything from it. He immediately sensed a connection and developed a feeling that the collaboration on the song could lead to something more substantial. Sanborn had found a new collaborator in Amelia who also believed that this one off partnership had the potential to become something really big. Schedules were aligned, moves were made and the duo met each other in Durham to form Sylvan Esso.
As 2013 approached, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn started recording their debut album in an apartment bedroom. They came out with ‘Sylvan Esso’ in 2014 which featured light and dark tracks of suffering and love. The album went to the number seven spot on the Independent Albums Chart and found itself on number four position on the US Top Electronic Albums chart. ‘Sylvan Esso’ spawned four hit singles, Coffee, Hey Mami, Play it Right and Dress.
The album also received positive reviews from critics. James Christopher of AllMusic gave the album three and a half stars out of five and called it “club- and café-ready, artsy and cool.” ‘Sylvan Esso’ was selected as the Album of the Week for May 2014 by Tom Breihan of Stereogum who described the album in words, “a breezy, joyous piece of work.” Lior Phillips of Consequence of Sound also praised Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn for their album and said that this is “a true achievement for a duo who are just starting to sow their musical seeds.”
The reason why Sylvan Esso sounds unique and incredible at the same time is because Sanborn comes up with perfect electronic music beats that sync seamlessly with Meath’s melodies. His work on ‘Sylvan Esso’ shows that Sanborn’s production style is wonderfully active and fully modern that features obliterating dubstep stutters and crisp electropop pulses on ten electro influenced tracks that were included in their debut album. Not to take anything away from Amelia Meath’s contributions because she is the one who provides breathtaking vocals that mesmerize listeners and act as the cherry on top of the beautifully constructed tracks.
The band is now all set and ready to embark on a road trip that will take Amelia and Nick to different parts of the United States and Canada. Book your Sylvan Esso tickets and join the duo on what promises to be a ride of a lifetime as they continue to light up the musical sphere with their sound.
