Red River Valley Fair Welcomes Parmalee, Maddie and Tae & Larry Fleet

With a history that dates back to 1906, Red River Valley Fair remains one of the oldest festivals in West Fargo. With 10 days of nothing but fun-filled activities, this summer extravaganza has created a legacy of its own. Set to take place from July 8 till July 17, 2022, the grandstand at the fair will welcome some of the biggest music bands.

July 16 has specifically been dedicated to country music, as performances are lined up by Parmalee, Maddie and Tae, and Larry Fleet. The tickets sales have already started for the big day and the stars are looking forward to a huge turnout.

Country band Parmalee released their latest album “For You” in 2021 and the upcoming event will see them performing songs from it. Country music duo Maddie and Tae treated the fans to their EP “Through the Madness” in January 2022 and it comes with a supporting “All Song No Static Tour”. Larry Fleet also released an album in 2021 and is earning a lot of acclaim for the song “Where I Find God”.

Parmalee is a tight-knit country band comprising of the brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, their cousin Barry Knox and childhood friend, Josh McSwain. The Thomas brothers started their music career early on and as teenagers performed with their father’s band. They performed around their area as Jerry Thomas & the Thomas Brothers Band and later were joined by Knox. Following the retirement of the elder Thomas, the trio continued with gigs at a local bar and it was during one of their shows that they crossed paths with the keyboardist, guitarist and longtime friend, McSwain. Josh was enjoying success as part of a cover band and in 2001 joined hands with the trio. This was the start of a professional career for the quartet.

Rechristened Parmalee, they fused bluegrass, Southern rock, traditional country and blues to produce a professional, crisp country rock sound. Topped with solid songwriting, the multi-instrumentalist lineup came up with an EP, “Daylight”. It came out in 2002, followed by the release of 2004 album “Inside”. The band’s second EP, “Complicated” arrived in 2008 after which they signed with Stoney Creek Records and treated the fans to the singles “Musta Had a Good Time” and “Carolina”. Parmalee’s first studio album came out in 2013. “Feels Like Carolina” has peaked on the Billboard Country Music charts at number ten and is placed at 46^th position on the Billboard 200.

After a rocky ride that includes mediocre albums and Scott Thomas’ shooting incident, Parmalee has finally found a breakthrough with “Feels Like Carolina”. It includes well-crafted numbers that are a mesh of arena rock and lighthearted country. Matt’s distinctive vocals have brought freshness to the songs, be it the catchy single “Close Your Eyes” or the summer soaked, laid back track “Day Drinkin`”. The band knows how to attract the listeners and tracks like “Think You Oughta Know That” form that emotional connection.

Having performed as an opening act for many bands and musicians, Parmalee will be taking the stage solo this time.
