The haunting sensation of "Nights in White Satin" remains, to this day, a wonder of the early rock era - the band behind it, the Moody Blues, creative as ever, have been active on the international music scene for nearly five decades, surviving a break up early on, and thriving soon thereafter. The Moody Blues have retained their aura of other-worldliness, and an inclination towards the foggy and the fantastic that coaxes out the real in some ways, and in others, provides an escape - the sensibility that defines the generation that the Moody Blues belong to. The Moody Blues can be characterized as progressive rock, psychedelic rock or "synth-pop." They wowed the critics with some inventive fusion of rock and classical music in Days of Future Passed, their 1967 album. So grab your Moody Blues tickets now to enjoy the band performing live!
Originally from Birmingham, England, the Moody Blues came together in 1964, sticking around for a decade, disappearing for three years and returning for good, much to the excitement of their fans. The extended break followed their compilation This is The Moody Blues and their Asian tour, and was a result of fatigue from creating and performing. The Moody Blues announced the break first as a permanent break up which was followed by the band members coming up with solo recordings. Blue Jays, the popular duo album by Hayward and Lodge, was also released during this period. Pinder made The Promise in 1976, the same year that Thomas collaborated with Nicky James on Hopes, Wishes and Dreams and Edge produced Paradise Ballroom. The following year, Hayward put together the acoustically layered album Songwriter and Lodge released Natural Avenue. Hayward was most prolific, releasing albums steadily through the years: Night Flight in 1980, Moving Mountains in 1985, Classic Blue in 1989, The View from The Hill in 1996 and Life in San Juan Capistrano in 1998. The Moody Blues reunited in 1977, giving a live concert at the Royal Albert Hall, backed by London/Decca Records.
Currently, the Moody Blues consist of: Norda Mullen on flute, guitar, percussion, harmonica and vocals, Paul Bliss on keyboards and guitar, Bernie Barlow on keyboards, percussion, vocals, and Gordon Marshall on percussion. The Moody Blue songs most in demand are: "Visions of Paradise," " Nights in White Satin," "Ride My See Saw," and "Tuesday Afternoon." Audiences are as avidly engaged as ever when the Moody Blues take the stage.
The Moody Blues welcomed the new millennium by releasing "Hall of Fame" which is a live concert from Royal Albert Hall with a DVD as an addendum. In 2001, they made Journey into Amazing Caves, an IMAX movie featuring two songs composed and performed by the Moody Blues. The song "Water" appears on this production. A Christmas themed album called December was released in 2003. The Moody Blues has been touring extensively in the past few years. Their live performances have taken them through three continents where their fan-base is the strongest: North America, Europe and Australia. They have recently toured the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
