Getting recognition as a songwriter

Lauv is the stage name of Ari Staprans Leff who has become a pop music sensation in no time. Growing up in San Francisco, California, he developed interest in music at an early age and started playing piano. When he turned eleven, Lauv picked up the guitar and then went on to join many groups during his middle and high school days.

After graduating from the New York University, Lauv decided to become a musician. Influenced by stars like Paul Simon and John Mayer, he started writing songs and soon penned down a track for Olivia Noelle called, Faking It which she released in 2015. After that, he went on to pen down tracks for the likes of Tritonal, Daniel Skye, Laura Roy and Cash Cash.

He also co-wrote and co-produced a smash hit single, No Promises for the electronic music trio Cheat Codes. The track featured Demi Lovato and was awarded gold certification in nine countries including, the United States, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany and the United Kingdom. It also reached the second spot on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

The Other

Lauv started thinking about becoming a recording artist when he penned down the song The Other following a bad break-up. He finally decided to record the song and released it in 2015. It turned out to be a great decision because the track not only ranked on Spotify’s Global Top 100 but also peaked at the third spot on Hype Machine. He also released the music video of the song on YouTube which has been viewed over seven hundred thousand times.

He then churned out his debut extended play ‘Lost in the Light’ on September 25, 2015. The EP contained four new songs besides The Other titled Comfortable, Reforget, Adrenaline and Come Back Home.

I Like Me Better

On May 19, 2017, Lauv spawned his most successful single to date I Like Me Better. It landed at the eleventh spot on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and achieved platinum level sales in Australia and New Zealand. This song was streamed in excess of one hundred million times on Spotify whereas on YouTube, its music video crossed nine million views. When Billboard asked him in an interview about the amazing response the track has received Lauv had this to say,

“It's not even real, to be honest, it's really crazy, it's amazing.”

Five months later, he released his sophomore self-titled EP. It contained a single Easy Love which charted at the fifth spot on the New Zealand Heatseekers chart. Moreover, he filmed the music video of this song which came out on October 5, 2017. So far, the video has been seen in excess of two million times on YouTube.
