Kygo: The Early Years

In a lot of ways, Kygo was a child musical prodigy. Born in Singapore to Norwegian parents, Kygo was getting music lessons since he was six years old. Several lessons later and learning music on his own through YouTube tutorials, Kygo was well on his way to produce music in his teen years. It didn’t take him much longer to realize that music was his real calling and he gave up his college studies to pursue music as a full-time career.

Kygo: 2014 and “Firestone”

In 2014, when he was only 23 years old, he released “Firestone,” which catapulted him to instant success. The single featured vocals from Conrad Sewell and it debuted at several musical charts all over the world. As soon as it was uploaded on YouTube, it had the community buzzing. The song would gain 80 million viewers, which prompted Coldplay and Avicii to contact him for making of the official remix of “Midnight,” a Coldplay song.

Since 2014, there has no looking back for Kygo. He has been interviewed by the Billboard magazine, where he talked about his work and his then upcoming tour in North America. The year was also significant for the artist in another way as well; he produced a collaboration bracelet and all of the proceeds were donated to Doctors Without Borders. His philanthropic activities are quite possibly because he is very well travelled around the world. He sees what is happening around the globe and that affects him.

Kygo: 2015 – 2016

In 2015, “ID” came out, which featured in the official trailer for Ultra Music festival and FIFA 16. He was also the main feature at the very famous Lollapalooza, arguably the biggest music festival all over the world. During the same year, he also made his US television debut by appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Kygo was not the toast of the entire music world and he was making the most of it.

“Firestone” wasn’t Kygo’s only single which ruled the charts. In 2015, his second single “Stole the Show” was released which was streamed over 1 million times. “Nothing Left” followed soon after and peaked at the no.1 position on the Norwegian Singles Chart. After releasing another couple of singles to great success, Kygo announced the release of his debut studio album Cloud Nine, which has already hit the stores. The album was released earlier this year and was preceded by three promotional singles. “Fragile,” “Raging” and “I’m In Love” came out one after another in the run up to the release of the record. 

The album received a mix response from the critics and peaked at the No.1 position on the US Dance/Electronic Albums (Billboard) chart. It also ruled the charts in UK, Switzerland, Scotland, Czech Republic, Canada and Kygo’s native, Norway. The album features the likes of Angus & Julia Stone, John Legend, Labrinth, Kodaline, Julia Michaels, Will Heard and others.
